Who Wears Short Shorts?

Until this summer, I had firmly cast myself into the “anti-shorts” camp. I still kept my favorite cut-offs in my bottom drawer, but upon “learning what works for my body,” I decided my 30” legs were too short for them. Flowy skirts and dresses were more my thing.

But pretentious as that philosophy was, I’ve completely flipped the idea on its head. I’m now the proud owner of not one, but four pairs of what I refer to as the “anti-short-shorts” – high-waisted, easy-fitting shorts in unexpected materials (and/or patterns). Because let’s face it, no one really looks good in tiny denim hot pants.

The possibilities are endless, from chiffon to suede and loose fits to structured ones. And thanks to more forgiving cuts, these styles are not only comfortable, but also insanely flattering. The nipped-in waists and sensible lengths (far past the fingertips) are chic and proportional, especially paired with a loose blouse and feminine flats.
