Cinequest Picture The Possibilities—San Jose, California

Positions: Software engineers, entrepreneurs, film editors, graphic designers, marketing, product designers and creators.

Are you ready to picture the possibilities? Cinequest PTP‘s, Picture it, Create it motto represents the core beliefs of this innovative organization. Located at the heart of Silicon Valley, Cinequest uses the power of technology and storytelling to influence many individuals nationwide and across the world. Their mission includes helping the youth, artists, creators of all art and other to follow their dreams.

What We Do

Cinequest compares to powerful inspirational speeches; they both resonate within those individuals whom they touch. Going on 28 years strong, CEO Halfdan Hussey and President Kathleen Powell continue to strive to make an impact on this world. Focused on the power of innovation, storytelling and empowerment, Cinequest Picture The Possibilities gravitates towards personal development in the sense that if you want to create something, you can make it happen. Through the 7 Powers of Creating Workshop, individuals have the given tools to make their dreams come true.

Who We Help

Cinequest is a renowned non-profit organization  known for their service to the youth between the ages of 13 to 22. The organization provides youth from underprivileged backgrounds the tools of technology, film, writing, filming and all aspects needed for a production career. Picture The Possibilities embodies the title itself by helping youth picture their own possibilities. PTP holds city sessions, a series of teaching moments where youth have the freedom to work with professionals in the industry to do workshops on self–empowerment, script writing, acting, filming, editing and more. This thus gives youth the opportunity to get a head start on this creative world called the Media & Entertainment industry.

What It’s Really Like

Interning with Cinequest PTP has been one of the best experiences of my life. Do you want to make a change in your community, as a passionate creator in love with the idea of innovation? Cinequest checks the box for all those qualifications. As a former intern, Cinequest has helped with my communication and writing skills. It exposed me to all media related to personal perseverance. As a film company, you’ll get to work with professionals either specializing in editing, engineering, marketing or designing. The warmth of the workplace will provide you with the realization that you’ll make a bigger impact on life than you thought.

What You’ll Learn

Like most other internships, you’ll learn about how to work with other amazing interns and multiple employers. Unlike other companies, however, Cinequest PTP will help you learn how to become your true authentic self, a discovery that will assist you throughout life. You’ll learn the ins and outs of working with successful people, while also adding to your story and improving your brand. You’ll also gain deeper insight into how film productions work and the logistics that go on behind the screen. Thus, you’ll learn about how the industry operates sooner than later which is always a bonus.

How to Get Involved

During film festival times, Cinequest searches for motivated and highly energetic volunteers to assist with organizing venues or drive participants of the festival (some may be honorary students or famous luminaries). Past years interns and volunteers were able to assist artists like James Franco, Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford, Tatiana Maslany, J.J. Abrams, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ben Kingsley and Sir Ian McKellen. Applications run on a rolling basis. You can also get involved by subscribing to the Cinequest newsletter to stay updated on new opportunities presented, as well as applying for the 7 Powers of Creating Workshop.
