Tribal Touches

Emily Farra   October 16, 2011

When a new trend surfaces, fashionistas everywhere share one collective thought: can I pull this off? Between psychedelic furs, metallic jeans, and violent-looking footwear, this notion is a necessary step in the shopping process. Indeed, no girl can pull off every trend. Plus, many trends demand a certain attitude – i.e. bohemian skirts call for a festival-frolicking flower child while tough moto jackets beg for a devil-may-care rebel. But there’s one trend that truly anyone can wear, no matter your style or sensibilities: tribal print.

But where did the tribal trend come from? Oh, I don’t know, only the roots of America. And isn’t America one big melting pot? Why, yes it is. This alone is proof that any girl can wear all the tribal-printed clothes and accessories her heart desires, and the result is most likely pretty adorable. But not only is the tribal trend at the core of this here American civilization, but the pattern can be subtle orintense, neutral or neon, earthy or edgy – really, anything goes.

Another great thing about tribal prints is that they actually look best when printed on simple shapes like loose tanks, zipper clutches, little sneakers, and stretchy leggings. Then you just need to finish your look with some solid pieces – maybe a few bright pops of color? – and you’ve got an easy, on-trend outfit. Try any of the items below for a fresh wardrobe update – then thank your lucky stars our ancestors were so stylish.
