Binge Watch Weekend: Orange is the New Black

Josh Axelrod   June 6, 2014  (Updated: October 24, 2014)

Every week, we’ll highlight a few television shows you should check out – you know, when you’re not at class, partying or generally having a life. Remember, binge watching is only an accomplishment if you can do it in between (not instead) of all your other activities.

******Spoiler Alert: This article discusses specific plot points of Orange is the New Black’s first season. Of course, if you’re not caught up by now, #suckstosuck.******

Guys, it’s back! It’s been an excruciatingly long wait, but the second season of Orange is the New Black is finally on Netflix and ready to be binged. I for one need a little dose of Crazy Eyes in my life.

So, where’d we leave the ladies of Litchfield? The big cliffhanger involved Piper (Taylor Schilling) finally growing a backbone and punching the religion out of the annoying and CRAZY Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning).

It was great to see Piper snap and give that stab-happy lunatic the beating she deserved, but her actions raised a lot of questions that Season 2 will need to address right away, including:

·      How much damage did Piper do to Pennsatucky?

·      Is she going to get more prison time for this?

·      How will the guards and inmates treat her now?

·      Is anyone going to care that Pennsatucky is hurt besides that one chick who follows her around like a lost dog?

Elsewhere, romance blossomed between Alex (Laura Prepon) and Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Red (Kate Mulgrew) lost her kitchen and the weirdest love triangle ever formed between Pornstache (Pablo Schreiber), Bennett (Matt McGorry) and Daya (Dascha Polanco).

Frankly, this show has so many characters and subplots that it isn’t worth recapping them all. Luckily for binge watchers, this show has no bad characters or unnecessary subplots. I want to see more of them all, especially Taystee (Danielle Brooks) and Poussey (Samira Wiley).

Plus, there’s just nothing quite like a Netflix binge. All the episodes are laid out for you to watch at your leisure. That format is how OITNB and House of Cards have become household names. The episodes are just there, forever. Why not give them a chance?

So get ready to not leave your home for a few days while you devour the juicy new season of OITNB. You know Frank Underwood will be watching:
