10 Things I Want My Boyfriend To Know

FacebookTweet
Matthew Ortile August 10, 2012

It’s easy to congratulate your better half on a delicious home-cooked meal or thank him for the sweet note he wrote you yesterday. It’s a bit more difficult to tell him the important stuff: how you feel, what you want. After all, it’s hard enough to ask him to switch the television channel from the Olympics to a Sex and the City rerun that you’ve already seen dozens of times. I reached out to ladies from college campuses across the country to see what they want their past, present, and future boyfriends to know. Here are the top ten innermost thoughts we don't say out loud.

1.) I want you to express more emotion from time to time. It’s okay to be the big tough guy sometimes, but it’s also wonderful when you show a soft heart.

–Rachel T., University of Nevada, Las Vegas

2.) Letters and packages in the mail are so sweet, even if it's just a short postcard! I just want to know that I’m on your mind.

-Clare N., University of Missouri

3.) I wish you would call me smart as much as you call me beautiful. Looks shouldn't be everything.

4.) I don't want you to send me a picture of your dick. I really enjoy your penis and love seeing you naked, but I don't need that thing on my cellphone.

Emily C., University of Mississippi

5.) I want you to come visit me at my campus as much as I visit yours. And I want you to want to come visit me, not do it because I ask you to.

-Ashley Long, Stone Hill College

6.) I wish you'd make the effort to befriend my friends. They’re just as important to me as you are, and I want you to recognize that.

-Lydia W., Sarah Lawrence College

7.) I wish this relationship felt just as new for you as it does for me. I know you’ve dated more people than I have, but that doesn’t mean you can’t feel nervous and excited around me.

-Alexandra C., Vassar College

8.) I want you to please, please, please be yourself. It’s annoying when I think I know you and consider you a potential "other half," only to realize that you’ve been pretending the entire time.

-Alex N., Howard University

9.) I’m dying to ask you if you like me as much as I like you. I think the answer is yes, but I'm scared of being wrong.

-Lisa Kashinsky, Boston University

10.) I want to know every single detail about your sexual history. Yes, I will pry and get pissy about some details. Yes, I'll get over it.

-Michelle W., University of Arizona

And here’s a bonus 11th honest request from yours truly: there will always be men in rubber flirting with me, but I can’t help it, baby. Take me for what I am.
