About Us

College Park Picture

College Magazine is a lifestyle and advice publication for students. Articles cover academics, fashion, nightlife, entertainment, sex, sports, and more. Each issue includes upcoming local events and profiles real students who are succeeding in unusual ways. With all content envisioned and written by students themselves, College Magazine provides an insider view on everything from how to get ahead in college to how to throw the ultimate themed party.

Its founder, Amanda Nachman, a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, started College Magazine in her senior year. Her mission was to create a publication written by students that included advice and commented on college life experiences. She wanted to give students, especially those aspiring to be writers and photographers, the opportunity to be published in a magazine that related to their lives. Nachman hopes to eventually expand College Magazine to schools across the country. Her ultimate goal is to provide scholarships to college students.

Note from the Publisher

Welcome to College Magazine. Like any good college student, I wrote the intro, added the date and clicked “save” countless times only to procrastinate a few hours before finishing this publisher’s note. As an English major, you might think I would have had this writing thing down to a science. But if college life has taught me anything, it's that mastering the student experience is truly an art, and one deserving of its own magazine.

With my major, my sorority, studying abroad in Rome, internships and attempts to attend club field hockey practices, I had little time to figure out the bigger questions. What was I going to do after graduation? Or, at the very least, what classes would I take the following semester? I was lucky to have some wonderful mentors along the way, and friends who could recommend the most non-science science class or a Shakespeare course with a twist. And when it came to joining on-campus clubs or venturing out to D.C. for a concert, it was always a trial and error experience. Figuring it out myself was fun but it would have been nice to have a guide along the way.

I hope that College Magazine will be that guide for you. And I trust that your peer’s stories will help deliver insights on embracing the college experience. Keep an eye out for the next issue of College Magazine as we join you for the best years of your life.

Have a great fall semester!

Amanda

Letter from the Editor in Chief

Exhausted, relieved and ecstatic are the only words I can think of to describe how I feel about wrapping up this issue of College magazine. It was quite an experience working with six editors and all of our writers, meticulously editing every article, overseeing the e-newsletter, communicating with our PR team on celebrity interviews, discussing the layout with our publisher, and oh, maybe having a relaxing summer? To be honest, when I first transitioned from Editor to Editor-in-Chief, I really didn’t know if I could handle all of the responsibilities. Taking the role however, not only made me more confident as an editor, but also more confident as a person.

I really have to hand it to the editors and writers for shaping this issue. Their creativity and enthusiasm truly shows in every single article. I would like to thank the editors for dedicating their time and energy to their writers. I would also like to thank our PR Director, Anna, for communicating with publicists, and writing this issue’s riveting cover story. Finally, I would like to thank our Publisher, Amanda, for our endless meetings discussing a challenging article and her creative advice on layout and complement pieces.

So readers, while you enjoy reading everything from tips on networking to the shocking facts on Salvia, know that College Magazine is a group effort, comprised of a passionate and talented team.
