Journalist internships are a big deal at TREND HUNTER Magazine. Rather than fetching coffee or making copies, our interns are the heart and soul of our publication. As a key part of our team, interns will build 1000+ article portfolios and build skills that set them up for success in the wonderful world of publishing.

Our full-time interns learn a curriculum that covers writing, editing, online publishing, PR, online marketing, SEO, social media and trend research. These skills are heavily sought after by employers who are desperately trying to understand the online media space.

Over the course of a semester, our goal is for each intern to have a rockin time while building a portfolio of 1,000+ published articles in fashion, design, pop culture, technology and advertising. After 1-2 months of learning the ropes, our interns get to drive exciting projects, which have included: TV Scriptwriting, Celebrity Interviews, Publicity Stunt Design, PR Launch Strategies, and Trend Report Research.

All applicants should have/be:
- Excellent grammar skills
- Web 2.0 savvy
- Involved with social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc) as well as a profile on Trend Hunter with at least 3 published trends.
- Ideally have a passion for journalism, graphic design, business, Web 2.0 and /or media.

The Public Relations Intern will be responsible for research, analysis, and development of a number of marketing projects in collaboration with community stakeholders (staff, volunteers, schools, organizations, students) to achieve organizational strategic marketing goals. The PR Intern will assist in creating a comprehensive national communications distribution channel and messaging timeline. This Intern will identify and act upon press and publicity opportunities across national YFU Districts, research and write special interest stories, obtain relevant photographs and submit them to local media. Further, the Public Relations Intern will be tasked with increasing awareness of YFU through social media marketing at the national level with the goal of increasing online engagement with existing and potential YFU community members (Alum, Families, Students, Volunteers, Schools). The intern will be responsible for developing a full-scale, national social media campaign cycle, including messaging timelines, tone of voice for target constituents, developing organizational social media posting standards, and recommending “best practices”.

Responsibilities:
- Working with the Marketing Department, field staff, volunteers, host parents, students and schools to develop a field specific press and publicity plan
- Draft and distribute media advisories, press releases and special interest stories to local newspapers and other media
-Draft scripts for PSA broadcasting; Create media kits and develop templates to enhance field communications
- Develop a database of national and local press/media contacts and successful publications; establish relationships and cultivate interest in YFU’s mission and programs.
-Work with the Marketing Team to formalize and implement an ongoing national social media campaign cycle. Participate in blog development as time permits.

Qualifications and Knowledge
- Candidate must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in marketing, journalism, international studies, education, business or related fields.

- Our MOMS (Making Our Milk Safe) program: help build our online community, writing website content, help with maintaining our membership database, coordinating MOMS community events, as well as assisting the Project Director with preparation of grant proposals and email blasts.
