South Padre Island, Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas. That’s the cliché, right? I don’t particularly like clichés, but there are hotels here that allow kegs on the beach. Well done, Texas.

Attention spring breakers: Kegs and alcohol are LEGAL on the beach. Yes. Legal. And the Isla Grand helps you enjoy that perk to your full advantage. With Coca Cola Beach directly behind the Isla Grand, you’ll be exposed to crowds of 12,000 to 18,000 daily, partying and winning prizes from 11 in the morning until 5 p.m. The hotel itself provides 128 cabana-style rooms, each of which sleeps 4 people. And with 3 different bars on site, you can keep the party going at the hotel when the Cola Beach festivities are over. Alternatively, you could just start a bonfire on the beach. And get kegs. And Solo cups. ‘Cause, yeah, it’s legal. Call it that Southern hospitality.

Get the full resort treatment at the La Copa, situated on the southern end of the island. Bask in the glory of all that South Padre has to offer while having a relaxing getaway to recharge after nights of bar-hopping and one too many shots. La Copa has an outdoor pool for you to relax by, a fitness center (if you have some fine-tuning to do on your “Spring Break body”), and a complimentary breakfast service. They also have a complimentary Happy Hour. Nothing like saying “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere” and not having to pay for it.

If you’re looking for something a little less structured, consider renting a condo at the Saida Towers. Located beachfront and close to a number of hotels, a Saida condo could be the perfect option. Not only will you get to enjoy their 3 pools, multiple tennis courts and poolside food and drinks, but you won’t have any of those pesky restrictions on the number of people that can sleep in one room. So just tell the renter that 4 of you are going. And then grab 8 more friends. Pay practically nothing, and have a great time on South Padre Island. Just hope you don’t, I don’t know, kick a hole in the wall, or something.
