Putting to Bed the City that Never Sleeps

The purpose of this article is to provide useful information regarding different places to party on New Year’s Eve, with one restriction: they aren’t New York City. We figured that the Big Apple has a kind of monopoly on New Year’s Eve, and that it was time to give other cities a chance to shine. Think outside the box. And book your tickets immediately.

New Orleans: Although New Orleans is most famous for Mardi Gras in February, it’s got enough energy to entertain anyone that wants to bring in the new year Cajun style. The city hosts the Sugar Bowl, this year pitting the #6 Utah Utes against the #4 Alabama Crimson Tide on January 2, meaning scores of fans will be turning the city upside down before the big game – great fun for football fans, or anyone that generally likes to party and raise some good old-fashioned havoc. The party is all up and down Bourbon Street (surprised?) where the bars have no set closing time, so the revelry could very well run into the morning.
Las Vegas: Timing is key here. The city can get very crowded, very quickly. The Strip, home of Vegas’ most famous casinos, hotels, and resorts, is already packed 8pm. If you’re looking for a more laid back celebration, downtown is the best bet for you. It’s a giant block party that costs 20 dollars (free for Nevada residents). Great food, festivities and live music are to be expected.
Miami: If you want to add cool and relaxing weather (Vegas can get awfully chilly at night, so bring a jacket) to your vivacious nightlife, then head to Miami. South Beach is famous for its luxurious and celebrity-studded clubs, and places like the Opium Garden and B.E.D. are packed with style, great music, and beautiful people. Be warned, a handful of these spots sell tickets starting at $100 dollars or more. For a less expensive time, head out to the Bayfront Park Amphitheater to catch a host of popular bands or cuddle up with that special someone to watch the fireworks on the beach near Ocean Drive and 8th Street.
Some other places known to throw down a great New Year’s Eve celebration include Chicago, Honolulu, Key West, Los Angeles, and Boston. We hope that this list has planted a few ideas in your head for places to go that aren’t New York City, so stretch your legs, try something new and have a great New Year’s!
