The One With All The Talented Musicians
Amanda DeLuise
Okay, so I think I’m starting my year off right in regards to going to shows. Â Let me begin where my Saturday night began.
My group of friends at NYU is really, really talented. I tell people this all of the time but I don’t think they really get it. But honestly, I never thought I’d befriend so many people that I think will be famous for something one day.
Erin Rioux is one of those people. On Saturday night, we went to see him perform at The Public Assembly in Brooklyn. He performs alone, but more noise comes from the stage in his single person than I’ve seen from a lot of four or five piece bands. I don’t even know how he does the things he does, but it’s incredible. It’s not exactly what I’m used to as far as musical genre, but I respect the immense talent this kid has. If you’re not listening to anything right now and you’re a fan of electronic/hip music (a la Cale Parks, Passion Pit, Phoenix, etc).. check out Rioux.
Here’s a music video that a bunch of my friends collaborated on that was later part of Campus Movie Fest 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rShpAoXMVoY
So after the Rioux show, I went next door to the Music Hall of Williamsburg for one of the best shows I’ve been to in a few months. Mainly because of the beast that is Dan Yemin from the band Paint It Black.
Paint It Black was the brainchild of Dan Yemin and some of his Philly brothers shortly after he suffered a stroke. Yemin, who is from my home state of New Jersey, was originally in the insanely influential punk bands Lifetime and Kid Dynamite. For now, both aren’t active, so Dr. Dan got his PhD in child physcology and is now a physcologist/father-to-be/wild frontman.
Instead of explaining how cool Dan Yemin is, or how awesome Paint It Black is (if you’re into punk/melodic hardcore), take a look at the pictures I snapped at the show. Then imagine actually being there. Then listen to them.

And the best part of show (aside from them being on stage) was after their set, DAN YEMIN came into the crowd so he could watch the headlining act (and punk legends) Naked Raygun. And guess where he stood? Right in front of me. Crazy doesn’t even begin to cover it.

In front of me!
