Athletes Who Make Twitter Cool

Phil Gentile

I’m just going to come out and say it……Twitter is the best thing to happen to the Internet since peanut butter jelly time. I already know what you’re gonna say. “Phil, Twitter is for losers!!” Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s the best way to follow your favorite websites, celebrities, and, most importantly, athletes. Never before have fans been able to follow their favorite athletes every move right from the source. Sometimes it’s interesting, sometimes it’s Dustin Keller doing his laundry. Here are the most entertaining athletes you should be following on Twitter.

Shaquille O’Neal (THE_REAL_SHAQ)

Come on, you knew he had to be on the top of this list. Shaq is one of the most entertaining athletes in sports history and his Twitter account is an extension of his personality. Last season he tweeted that he was at a local mall in Phoenix and the first person to meet him there would get free tickets to that evening’s Suns game. Following his tweets have single-handedly turned me into a Shaq fan.

Chad Ocho Cinco (OGOchoCinco)

Chad promises to tweet during games this season

The receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson loves tweeting about everything and anything. Anytime an ESPN analyst calls him a showboat or distraction he makes sure to hop on Twitter and send a rebuttal out via the web. My personal favorite from Chad was when he compared the death of Michael Jackson to 9/11. He loves talking smack to fellow NFL players via Twitter so his page is a who’s who of football.

Larry Fitzgerald (Lfitzgerald11)

I was so glad to find my favorite athlete, Larry Fitzgerald, on Twitter. One of the best receivers in the NFL, from his tweets you can tell he is a down-to-earth good guy. Recently he has been working out with Packers receiver Greg Jennings and Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice. Where else would you get this info but on Twitter?

Pro Football Talk (ProFootballTalk)

The best website for NFL info sends out about twenty tweets each day with the latest info on all things football. Follow them on Twitter and you will impress all your friends who would rather sit on Facebook and read status updates from some random kid they went to grade school with.

Jemele Hill (jemelehill)

Ok, ok, so she isn’t an athlete, but Jemele Hill is, without a doubt, my favorite person I follow on Twitter. The ESPN columnist/on air personality always has a great take on the latest news from the world of sports. Plus, she makes me laugh at least once a day with her random tweets about everything from annoying kids on airplanes to old school Martin episodes. If you’re on Twitter you need to follow her ASAP.
