NBA Draft Diary

The NBA Draft is usually a crap shoot and this year is no exception. This year’s draft class is being called one of the worst in recent memory. Should be funny watching ESPN try to make this interesting, Let’s do this thing!!

7:30 ESPN goes over the former draft picks of the Clippers. Full of guys I’ve never heard of and guys who never did anything in the league. Drafting wise they are the Jets of the NBA.

7:39 Clippers draft Blake Griffin with the first pick. No surprise here. I like the purple shirt/black suit combo.

7:46 Grizzles draft Hasheem Thabeet. He does not look excited. I think he could be pretty darn good in a few years. Already the 3rd tallest guy in the league.

7:49 I think it’s a rule that all NBA hats need to be horrible looking, The draft hats look like something a soccer referee would wear.

nba-draft7:52 Not sure who the Thunder will take here……James Harden. Bit of a surprise Stuart Scott tells us. He then follows it up but calling him “polished”. We also learn he battled asthma as a kid. Why would be need to know that? I love ESPN.

7:56 Who would have thought Ricky Rubio would fall in the draft? “Who should we draft guys; this tall black kid who can dunk or a kid from Spain who looks like one of the Jonas Brothers?”

7:57 Kings select Tyreke Evans. I was able to see him a little during the NCAA tournament. Probably should have come back for more seasoning at Memphis but he could be a decent starter at the point for Sac Town.

8:00 Love the Magic/Nets trade. Vince Carter will be a good addition to Orlando and the Devin Harris/Courtney Lee combo will be fun to watch in Dirty Jersey. Courtney Lee will be a superstar in two years. Write it down.

8:01 They show the Timberwolves war room. I’m pretty surprised nothing in the room is on fire. They have four picks in the first round of a draft, like I mentioned earlier, that has been labeled as sub par at best.

8:04 Geez this draft is flying by, Why can’t the NFL do this??? The T-Wolves draft the Spanish Jonas Brother with the 5th pick.

8:12 Is Vanessa Minnillo dating Stephen Curry? She is older than me and he was born in 1988, Yikes.’

8:16 Watching the Knicks miss out on Stephen Curry just made my night. I love watching anything bad happen to teams from New York. Sorry if you’re a fan.

8:33 Brandon Jennings gets selected by the Bucks. Instead of going to college for a year he decided to play in Italy for a year. Should be interesting to see if he can put it all together, Jay Bilas says he as a “ton of talent”. No mention about “wingspan”, “polished”, or “tremendous upside” though.

8:48 Charlotte Bobcats draft Gerald Henderson from Duke. I’m pretty sure their entire team is UNC or Duke alum.

8:50 UNC answers back with Tyler Hansbrough getting picked by the Pacers,. I’m pretty sure Indiana is full of oafy white guys so this is a perfect fit for him.

9:05 Dick Vitale makes an appearance to analyze the first half of the draft. He loves the Hansbrough pick and thinks Stephen Curry will be Rookie of the Year. Hard to argue with him. On another note Jeff Van Gundy might be my favorite analyst in any sport. The guy is always on point.

9:10 James Johnson gets drafted by the Bulls. Stuart Scott tells us he is a physical guy while his bio on the screen says “Needs to be more physical.” I’m confused.

9:26 Eric Maynor selected by the Utah Jazz with the 20th pick. Sleeper pick of the draft. He is from a small program so not many people know him but he is legit. He will be a starter in the league for a long time.

9:53 Victor Claver, Omri Casspi, and Rodrigue Beaubois get drafted. All foreign players I have never heard of. I’m tempted to watch The Dark Knight for the 300th time.

10:22 With the last pick of the first round the Cleveland Cavaliers pick up Christian Eyenga. The jerseys are flying off the shelves already I’m sure.

Wow this has been exciting huh? So many highlights. NBA you have nothing to worry about. The future is bright! See ya next week!
