NYC in April: The Damnwells and Gregory Alan Isakov

A more apt title for this post would be, lesser-known artists playing April 4 in NYCbecause that week  just about everyone’s coming to the Big Apple. The Damnwells will perform at the Mercury Lounge and Gregory Alan Isakov the Concert Hall. I encourage you to attend at least one of the shows.

The Damnwells are from all over, including Brooklyn and Queens. In February, the band made its latest record, One Last Century, available for free download on their website. I say with utmost sincerity, if you don’t download it, you’re missing out on one of the best up-and-coming artists in the folk/acoustic genre. After first hearing the demo of “Down With The Ship,” I was absolutely floored by the heartfelt, raspy vocals and brilliant acoustic guitar work. It’s one of those songs you listen to in that moment of emotional vulnerability; it keeps you from falling down the path of instability. They will be playing at The Mercury Lounge on April 4, so get your tickets.

Colorado’s Gregory Alan Isakov is set to play at The Concert Hall with Brandi Carlile. Tickets here. Gregory Alan Isakov plays soft, lo-fi acoustic music. His accompaniment is a fiddler, cellist, and percussionist. You’ll want to check out this budding talent now before he hits the big time, especially after this tour with the lovely Ms. Carlile.
